ISO 9000
ISO 9000 is a series of standards designed to deliver quality products and services that meet client needs. Its family of standards constitutes a consensus on "quality management" practices aimed at ensuring that an organization, public or private, large or small, can deliver a product or service that meets both client and customer satisfaction. ISO 9000's popularity has been on the increase since its introduction in 1987.

Benefits
  • Proven cost benefit payback. Average figures for mid-sized companies (300 - 500 employees) are nine to twelve months. Larger organizations achieve payback within two years, with an eighteen-month average.
  • It was chosen by federal agencies such as the FAA, NASA, GSA, DOD, and private organizations including Raytheon, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin.
  • Federal agencies can capture institutionalized knowledge that might be lost with the imminent departure of many retiring staff.
  • It supports the President's Management Agenda for FY03.
  • Its 2000 revision is aligned with the Business Cycle of Plan, Do, Check, and Act.
  • It improves the understanding of the business process.
